A Little Chocolate for Dessert

James Giomi’s, my grandfather, extravagance was of  the spirit. In his kitchen, he taught me that the anticipation and preparation of a meal for family and friends are as important as the food itself. He left his family a legacy of gourmet recipes and a spiritual legacy beyond wealth.  It was the simple truth that he lived:  No matter what fate visits upon you, you face it with dignity, remembering that you belong among the living things, always grateful for the abundance in your life, and extravagant in nurturing others.

Chocolate Marble Italian Pound Cake Buccellato

Ingredients
 
6 cups flour
8 eggs
2 sticks butter
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 cups of milk
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp. anise
2 tsp. vanilla
3 Tblsp. rum
4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
(this recipe can be easily halved)
 
 
1.  Grease and flour 6-7 loaf pans or 2 bundt pans
2.  Sift together flour, Baking powder, salt.
3.  Mix sugar, butter, extract until creamy
4.  Add eggs one at a time and mix
5.  Add flour mixture alternating with milk and mix.
6.  Pour into baking pans
7.  Melt the chocolate and swirl with a knife into the cake batter in the pans
8.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
9.  Enjoy!
