It is with profound sadness in our hearts, tempered by the promise of eternal life, that we announce the passing of Rev. Edward Okpu on April 4, 2023.

Fr. Edward came from his home diocese in Nigeria to provide Catholic ministry in the United States. Originally brought to New Mexico to serve as the Spiritual Director for a group of Nigerian Religious Sisters, he later became Parochial Vicar (“Assistant Pastor”) at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in March, 2022. In addition to providing Mass, Confessions, Baptisms, funerals, and weddings, he served as the parish Director of RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), Spiritual Director for the Legion of Mary, and a retreat leader. Fr. Edward experienced a major stroke on February 15, 2023, followed by a second major stroke a few days later while hospitalized. Fr. Edward was 48 years old at the time of his passing.
