At the 12:00 noon Parish Fiesta Mass this coming Sunday, October 13th, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish will be presented with the Archbishop’s St. Francis of Assisi Award for outstanding service in our parish. Each year, the Pastors of the Archdiocese nominate a person or couple from their parish to receive this award, and this year, I am pleased to announce that I have selected Mr. Joe Vigil for this honor.
Joe has been a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Parish and continues to be actively involved in a variety of parish ministries. He serves as a greeter and usher at the 10:00 am Mass every Sunday. He is also an altar server for Benediction following Eucharistic Adoration every Monday, and is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Joe is a member of our Holy Name Society, and has also served multiple terms on the Pastoral Council of Our Lady of Fatima. He has boundless energy and a contagious sense of enthusiasm that inspires our parishioners and guests.
Receiving the award at this time is, no doubt, a bittersweet experience for Joe as he recently lost his beloved wife of 45 years, Kathryn, after a long battle with cancer. Joe, and his children and grandchildren, are grieving the passing of Kathryn and we, as a parish community, offer our support and encouragement through our words, actions, and prayers. We also offer our appreciation for his countless hours of service to our parish.
